It’s kind of amazing. I found a Blitz product that works absolutely PERFECTLY smooth @ 60 fps at all times and FAST, on all platforms including macOS and EVEN High Sierra (which should suck on everything so I’m not sure what is going on there).
Anyway for those who wanna know It’s BMax 1.50 (a really old version of an old product, the NG version also works equally well). Anyway It works so incredible nice without lags, interrupts, nor any sluggishness.
This will help to debug Monkey2 in that area. I also tried Windows as a platform now, it works equally well, but Windows and Monkey2 kinds works already perfectly, at least in two of my five setups, so it’s mostly about Xcode I guess.
The windows machines I think it’s becuase they only have 8GB of RAM, and that makes Monkey2 slow of course.
January 6, 2018 at 8:53 am #12695But you need to use OpenGL in Bmax for it to work, so my next thought was to do the exact same in Monkey2 and hope that they use similar routines but no luck, there’s too much differences in structure of course.
But OpenGL *can* be used in Windows & macOS in such a way, that it introduces NO JITTER. That’s important piece of knowledge. Even HighSierra. The simple fact that it’s even possible is an enormous motivation to try to get there, and to bring it inside a strong language such as Monkey2.
I will try to learn the inside of Monkey2 now, while doing the Pi platform module. This will take time haha.
But I don’t care. I want this.January 6, 2018 at 9:06 am #12696If you read the December blog post, there’s a explanation on how to use mojo/mojo3d with pure opengl drivers. It could help your need of a perfectly running machine!?
Cool that you go to the R-Pi way..
January 6, 2018 at 9:10 am #12698Can you post an example that’s not smooth on Monkey2 on your hardware?
Everything I test in 2D runs super smooth here (and I’m really picky about this sort of stuff) even on a laptop with crappy Intel HD graphics and MacOS High Sierra.
Cheers.
January 6, 2018 at 10:25 am #12699Monkey2 has never shown any stuttering on mac OS using a variety of machines from 2010-2013 MacBook, machine and Mac Pro
Be aware of BlitzMax that it is 32bit and High Sierra is the LAST Mac os it will run on. So if you are cinsiddereng a shift then think again <- just warning you on that one…
January 7, 2018 at 2:32 am #12720Monkey 2 on macOS works great here, no stuttering or any issues
And that’s on a MacBook from 2009.The windows machines I think it’s becuase they only have 8GB of RAM, and that makes Monkey2 slow of course.
My test machine for low-end stuff runs Windows 10 with 4GB (sometimes 2GB when I’m really curious) and Monkey 2 runs really well there as well.
