Hey all,
in case anyone of you creates a hit using Monkey 1/2 I’d appreciate if you market the shit out of it telling everyone about that hidden gem. Lately I researched the current state of usable 2d cross platform solutions and to my surprise there’s still no real competitor for Monkey. Well ya, there are a lot of respected 2d engines out there, Haxe for instance, but either they produce just ugly results in terms of target platforms or they use languages like Javascript I get goosebumps seeing it or they use huge editor based solutions with tons of overhead (Unity).
I let you know if I’m that guy in ten years or so. HA!
November 23, 2016 at 5:57 am #5370I have a few game prototypes written on monkey1, not completed yet.
After I tried unity3d I thought that I don’t want to use only ‘raw’ code now, editor-based development is fast and comfortable! A huge resulting package is a ‘minus’…
The biggest negative thing in monkey1 for me was that there is no ‘normal’ fonts (ttf).
But I was impressed with awarded New Star Soccer game written on monkey1: http://www.monkey-x.com/Apps/app.php?id=146
and Crypt of the NecroDancer http://store.steampowered.com/app/247080
November 28, 2016 at 10:04 am #5470I think a Made with MonkeyX2 would be in order
On Star Rogue (MonkeyX1) I have a monkey logo on the title screen and in the credits. I will also add it to the title startup to push monkeyX if I port to X2 I will also push that. After all without these tools creating games wouldn’t be as easy or fun
November 28, 2016 at 11:11 am #5471mmmm. definitely yes IF it was made with vanilla monkey2 – Monkey2 that had no changes to the core modules/compiler
If there were changes to the core, then I would have thought No, as monkey2 needed changes, so it couldn’t really be made with monkey2
Just a thought
November 28, 2016 at 11:15 am #5472I would disagree depending on how much needs changing. If it’s one module but your using everything else then I would still push a logo, if I wrote loads of the backend stuff then no.
November 28, 2016 at 12:03 pm #5474It seems that I incorrect understood topic starter giving a first answer…
