Mark has said in a few posts/tweets that he thinks MX2 will be his last language…

    http://monkey2.monkey-x.com/forums/topic/my-monkey-2-project-by-gstsoftware/#post-8248

although I think the chances of there being another Mark Sibly language are about a million to one against!

Also Mark did ask for these kind of threads not to be created…
    http://monkey2.monkey-x.com/forums/topic/mark-thoughts-on-help-with-example/page/2/#post-6764

And finally, please, enough with the “Mark! You must do *THIS* or mx2 is boned!” threads

At the end of the day, it is his site, his language and his vision.

Oh and he doesnt like swearing on his sites too…

Mark, if you read this… I’m so sorry for this thread!
    I can’t remove it either.
I was only wondering about some small issues, I didn’t want all this negativity.

You’re doing a great job, and I’m really exited about the future!

Jesse I really hope that is the truth. Would love to know that I can stick with it. 🙂

About the Mark’s blog post (without rage or nothing against Mark and his own time and decisions of course!)

1-Publicize mx2 better (and to users ‘beyond the blitz’ – that’s where the future really is…). I have been a bit pathetic here really and will try harder!
2-Produce some demo/tutorial vids for youtube.
3-Monetize the monetization stuff (ie: charge for admob, iap etc addons)
4-Write/sell a simple game in mx2 both to raise funds AND to have a decent ‘this was written in mx2’ demo.

Excluding the AdMob module, what else exists?

The roadmap was (is) *right* but Mark choosed to invest his time/resources on the 3d module.

And unless he could build up a simple game (with the 3d module) it could be another wasted chance.
And even with that, potential users will left alone with no completed documentation (not in list!) and #2.

I don’t think that *suggest* Mark to follow up HIS own plan could be offensive!

    ps:

just as to the community WHAT can be done. Many heads, many ideas.

Apologies from my side. I know those threads tend to derail quite often. In no way I wanted to offend anyone!

Regarding assembly compilations, considering that g++ is the standard compiler in every OS and platform, choosing a transpiler is much wiser decision to solve the problem of portability once and for all, going the assembly route would make no sense.

Regarding the 3D module, perhaps it makes sense to be developed. Monkey 2 is practically useful and stable enough to create stuff in it. 2D games are do work fine and get the job done, but the wow factor of 3D is missing. Gaming enthusiasts will better prefer 3D environments better, and this is unavoidable, the creation of the 3D module acts as a advertisement itself, the best form of advertisement is the proof of concept, the practical approach.

Your right Therevills he does not like swearing or posts like this, but I would also say that the second you put something online and open it up for discussion then your agreeing in some part to allow people to voice their thoughts and opinions on that topic matter, I didn’t start this thread but like many others I do have very real and proven concerns which I took the opportunity here to voice.

If I in any way gave the impression that I didn’t like mark then people are getting the wrong idea, I have not stuck around for this long, used every product hes made (apart from mx2) and enjoyed the sadly rapidly diminishing community if I did not like his work and his way of thinking, for the most part.

He’s just made some rather large mistakes that loads of his fans warned him about, then he did it again, so I would say that for some of us, were pissed, and rightly so, and unfortunately that can sometimes spill out and sound like anger on the forums.

So I wont apologise for having an opinion, I will apologise for my language tho, and I will continue to not make threads about this type of subject, but if some one else starts one then I will comment on it, it’s down to mark to prove everyone wrong and settle peoples fears, I for one hope he does.

    End of line.

So all in all to come back to the topic my main concern is lack of communication, roadmap and some clear statement that this will be maintained for the time being.

I agree Xaron, but I would add documentation to the list and a more limited scope. But since he started on 3d already, I can guarantee that this will be the focus for the remainder of the year. Everything else will be delayed accordingly. While this will please a limited number of 3d programmers, it will do little to attract the many new customers that are needed.

On a side note, one reason I think that Monkey 2 isn’t catching on is that it is no longer a Basic language like Blitz Basic, Max, and such. It has a steeper learning curve and turns off the weekend warrior programmer. I like the added language features, but I come from a C/C++ background. Many do not.

I agree. I mean I come from a c++ background too, so I’m fine with the syntax.

And yes documentation is the key.

just to show I’m not all gloom, when I saw marks voxel tweet it really got my attention, I hope that mx2 and his design supports voxels in a big way as I see that design style being huge in the coming years.

    @Taiphoz
The Voxels are actually my doing heh.
    It’s a module I’m planning on releasing, but it’s “2D” only.
Basically, you can’t tilt the voxels freely, but you can rotate them like in the video. 🙂

It works by doing a “slice” scan of a 3D model, and creating 2D images that I render ontop of each other to make it look 3D.

    Ow, my feelings. xD

It’s just the same as if Mark had made it (probably)
And there’s nothing stopping me from creating proper 3D models once the 3D engine is out.

watched the video again it looks stunning dude, it looks so good I just assumed it was little 3D cubes, but I guess, actually iv got no clue how your doing it little quads?

Whats the performance like how many things can you throw at the screen , does it do culling of objects unseen oh man so many questions, I basically have this shooter in mind and the idea is based on a little 2D space invader clone I did, at the time I was thinking how cool it would be with voxels but never had the time to invest in it so seeing this tweet which I assumed was marks work sorry my bad!, I thought about that game idea..

It really does look so cool dude.
