Hey there,
so I lately started a game where you’re in deep waters and the only way to “see” the outside world is your sonar:

Currently I just prototyped the sonar itself, so feel free to press space for a ping and move with the arrow keys. No collision in yet and the “world” just consists of random squares to test the occlusion.

very very high cpu usage though. 2 core 50% maxed on each.
March 8, 2017 at 3:02 pm #7423Thanks! Yes it runs good in Chrome but lags heavily in Internet Explorer. Actually this isn’t optimized at all yet. Just some render to texture stuff done by the CPU, no shaders involved yet.
March 8, 2017 at 3:20 pm #7424I like it, Runs smooth on Safari. 6ms 166FPS.
March 8, 2017 at 9:59 pm #7425Very cool! Seems like a good start for some kind of exploration-intensive game.
Getting 5ms / 200 FPS on Safari, Macbook Pro laptop.March 24, 2017 at 4:53 pm #7601Alright, I’ve uploaded another tiny prototype where you can just walk (creates noise) and ping in that randomized boxes world. Nothing meaningful yet, just want to show a little progress:

If you prefer an executable: http://www.sonobots.com/game/b002.zip
Use WSAD or cursor keys to move and SPACE to ping.
It’s pretty real time at the moment, next steps will be to put in some other bots and test both turn based and real time environment. Thanks!
March 24, 2017 at 7:19 pm #7603Very cool Xaron I will be interested to see where this goes. What type of game do you think you’re going to do in the end?
I know it’s a prototype but FYI you can move through the squares if you move diagonally.
March 24, 2017 at 7:22 pm #7604HA! You’ve spotted that bug, thanks! Will be fixed in the next build.
Well it will be kind of a roguelike. Still not sure if turn based or real time. You will have to sneak through some dungeon like procedurally created world and will battle versus other bots. Plus equip your own one…
