While as a carer for a family member, I’m sometimes time rich, I’m frequently cash poor… even my VPS which is very cheap, is courtesy of me maintaining another VPS for a less technically savvy friend…
That said I could probably afford $1 a month…
on one hand I think if 10,000 people did that Mark would be very happy, but on the other hand I look at the average monthly ( 68 patrons @ $364 ) most people would seem to be paying the suggested amount of $5 and wonder if $1 wouldn’t be a bit of an insult, especially considering how good mx2 is ?
I doubt I’m not the only one who doesn’t think $5 is insignificant….
mind you 4 people could be paying $75 a month…. :o)
November 11, 2016 at 6:00 pm #4955$1 is not an insult IMO – everything counts.
But, with $5+ you get special binary releases in the future,
as a Patreon reward. No hassle anymore with building yourself,
so you may want to consider the $5+ reward.November 11, 2016 at 6:26 pm #4956Paypal ‘donate’ will go nearly 100% in mark’s pocket.. You could give him 10$ this way. It will probably be more than a one year patreon of 1$. Some patreons switched to ‘Donate’ after patreon had made a mistake with their server security. And realised they take a percentage too..
November 11, 2016 at 6:35 pm #4957Hell NO!
All those $1 donations add up over time, and given that monkey2’s been in dev for quite a while now I’d be significantly worse off without the ‘$1 crowd’.
And beyond that, just the fact you think it’s worth anything in the first place is encouraging – each time a new patron joins up, regardless of the amount, it gives me a little burst of enthusiasm!
November 11, 2016 at 7:04 pm #4958Do users really think that Mark work is not worth more than $1?
I guess, considering that that there are users not contributing at all than $1 is better than nothing.November 11, 2016 at 7:25 pm #4959> Do users really think that Mark work is not worth more than $1?
It doesn’t really matter what something’s worth if you can’t afford it.
Times are tough for many people, myself included to a degree – although I don’t have family/mortgage/debts etc to deal with, which is really what allows me to give this a shot in the first place – so like with lots of things, you do what you can and, with enough people doing what they can, things might just work out in the end!
November 11, 2016 at 7:35 pm #4960what’s better for you paypal or patreon ?
November 11, 2016 at 7:44 pm #4961I get you Mark. I am also having a hard time. i have been in disability for the last 8 months living only on disability insurance which is a misery. Supporting a wife and two dogs. I still donate because I don’t see my small donation and don’t miss it.
November 12, 2016 at 11:49 am #4973I had the intention to switch to a yearly donate equivalent to 12 monthly patreon (starting in january). If it’s not a good idea please tell..
November 12, 2016 at 12:06 pm #4974…well in the end I found a little extra (touch wood doing a little better than I thought lol spreadsheet for the win!) ended up doing a monthly paypal…
November 20, 2016 at 9:55 pm #5281Nothing wrong with the $1 tier. Not everyone’s making dough off monkey/mx2 right now and might not even be pulling in decent bank to begin with! Some people just want to support continuing further development of a great language with a great heritage while working towards their own big break, and I don’t see anything wrong with that. ‘Specially those who are still in the “wait-and-see” camp and aren’t active in the community at the moment. Once you start donating it’s like opening a door, it says you’re ready to spend something to see something succeed and there’s power in having that “captive audience” if you’re the person being donated to
November 21, 2016 at 6:45 am #5287I ended up with a modest $2 a month, as I found some wiggle room, but yeah if I ever get around to publishing something with it and it actually sells, a decent donation has to be in order!
November 21, 2016 at 11:30 am #5305I see that you are very good developer based on what you posted on this forum. Perhaps you can use this power to create an awesome game and donate the 10% of your earnings. It’s more challenging (because you will complete the project that way) and fair (win-2-win) in my opinion.
November 21, 2016 at 11:56 am #5306coding has to be the smallest component of creating a *good* game…
November 21, 2016 at 12:27 pm #5307Just saw that my last pledges did not went through due to credit card issues. Sorry Mark. This has been fixed now, count me back in!
