The thing about discussions is everyone’s opinions have to be respected, however the moderation team over there only want pro BRL sentiments which maybe all rosy and peachy in a perfect world but isn’t completely true.
if your censoring everything anti BRL then in the end you will end up with nothing as nobody will discuss anything through fear of getting banned.
January 21, 2017 at 7:46 am #6680If a commercial company creates a support forum,
it has nothing to do with democracy. It’s support,
help and discussions for/about the product. If a company bans users who are against the products,
it is not a big problem. The company has to take care
of the interests of the company.Users clearly acting against the company, and trying to
harm the company and it’s products need to leave. It’s that easy.
January 21, 2017 at 8:13 am #6682@danilo – Well said.
January 21, 2017 at 8:32 am #6683what I’m saying is discussions tend to get heated in some cases you can’t ban people for opinions.
yes if they constantly unjustifiably attack the company then ye’s that can’t be tolerated but discussions are loads of people giving their opinions.
If freedom of speech is not part of the forum maybe ALL posts should be moderated before being put to the forum.
January 21, 2017 at 8:36 am #6684> you can’t ban people for opinions.
You can (and should), if it is against the interests of the company.
If a site or forum is run by a company, the company is the boss.
The company does not need to accept opinions against them or opinions
that harm the company or their products. Are you living in a dream world?
January 21, 2017 at 8:55 am #6685No I’m not living in a dream world it’s called Freedom of speech and if it’s not allowed on the forum maybe all posts should be moderated.
As I said personal unjustified attacks on a company is a ban but just discussing something isn’t. This is how the forum used to operate we discussed loads of things we were warned if we went to far and yes some where banned but stuff was discussed in a fair manner.
It screams of elitism to me just cut off the dead wood bow it’s served it’s purpose and love on. Nothing alienates people like getting shut down, who knows maybe some of the blitzers are waiting to see where MX2 goes and it’s feature set before coming here did you think of that?
Also would that mean the MonkeyX1 forum was due to close after all that seems to be less active than the legacy one? Maybe Elitist amongst us would like this forum to only be available to those who pledge. Where does the lunacy end?
January 21, 2017 at 9:18 am #6686Destroying the Blitzmax/Blitz3d community because a few people aren’t on board with monkey2 is a terrible and frankly childish idea.
I think it’s easy to lose sight of how great the community is over there. There is a wealth of knowledge and engagement that’s accumulated over years and the quality poeple/posts is still high and will be in the future.Try to keep some perspective. The ratio of posts from people who don’t like monkey2 is minuscule compared to all the other posts. If Simon wants to have a scorched-earth attitude about those who don’t want to use Monkey2, then just lock the ‘Monkey’ topic. Don’t punish a whole community and wipe out one of the greatest game-dev websites on the planet in a tantrum.
The bb forums are a living treasure on the internet, bigger than any one person. You can’t force anyone to use Monkey2, and kicking them out of their home is not gonna generate any love.
January 21, 2017 at 9:30 am #6687It’s funny to talk about “freedom of speech”.
It has nothing to do with reality in a commercial environment,
but some people are unable to get it. Those people think we
have to accept EVERYTHING, just for the sake of ‘free speech’.That’s just not the case. The commercial world does not work like this…
And in the political world, you go to jail, for your ‘free speech’.
That’s a fact here in Germany. If you know the real reasons and
process of WWII, you go to jail, if you mention it. That’s reality.January 21, 2017 at 9:32 am #6688GW, nobody is suggesting destroying anything.
.edit.
Well, I suppose the OP is but I forgot to say that I don’t agree with that sentiment at all.
January 21, 2017 at 9:51 am #6689I believe it is important to note (IMHO) that changes to the BlitzMax forum and site are ‘NOT’ motivated by some elitist agenda but by concerns for personal welfare as well as product reputation. Subscribing to a sky-is-falling mentality or sensationalizing what are well justified actions is, I think, reaching well beyond the scope of the intent.
Blitz is now open source and free. Legacy infrastructure has been put in place to show good faith and a small financial investment made to secure the value of the archives and provide continued community for active users.
It’s also important to read what Simon has posted carefully. The sky is not falling and the response is well conceived.
January 21, 2017 at 9:51 am #6690that I don’t agree with that sentiment at all.
I’m glad to hear that. Blitzmax has put food on my table for over a decade and I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve learned something new or gotten help over there. I love all the BRL products. They aren’t in competition with each other. That’s why I support Mark on patreon.
The more people the better, even those we disagree with.January 21, 2017 at 10:27 am #6691It’s also important to read what Simon has posted carefully. The sky is not falling and the response is well conceived.
Except that Simon has carefully edited out his previous comments.
@Richard Who has said what to you? Or are you now taking it on yourself to be judge and juror on other peoples (they didn’t ask for it) behalf?
Why not actually state what has got you particularly riled up?
January 21, 2017 at 10:45 am #6693Adam,
Thought this thread I have made my position and motivations clear. Continuing to rehash or debate them serves no purpose at this point. It’s my hope that you and others see the benefits of any changes.
January 21, 2017 at 10:57 am #6694I wanted to comment on this over at the Blitz forums but the thread was deleted (it’s not the first time “Monkey talk” has touched a nerve with moderation over there I’ll add!), so I’ve come here to do it…
I am for the idea of putting this all under one roof.
Despite what skidracer might think (“Blitz3D should never had to have shared a site with BlitzMax” – quote from the deleted thread), this is what should have happened in the first place. Monkey never needed a separate site/forum, and it still doesn’t. A bigger community, even if it comprises people who frequent for different reasons/platforms, is typically a stronger one – that’s how the Blitz community grew, and why segregation is causing conflict now.
As I recall, BlitzMax had its detractors too, but quickly became a big part of the Blitz community. That could have happened with Monkey, and could have been happening now with Monkey 2 if was all a part of the same forum.
January 21, 2017 at 11:27 am #6695I can’t comment
It’s sorta like (sticks fingers in ears) “LALALALALA” Don’t wanna listen. Someone said something – don’t know, can’t remember what, but let’s get together and stamp out this behaviour – especially if we can hide behind some other perceived threat.
What behaviour? Who, what was said.
You obviously have an extreme personal attack going on with the blitz crowd – and (I would suspect) me in person?
calling for the complete shut-down of something because ‘you’ don’t like what(ever) was said – we don’t know what or by whom. Won’t make people suddenly jump to the absolute perfect, there are no errors, there are no failures, there is only happy thought here, it will make the tea for you, shiny and new Monkey2.
Monkey2 is great for what it is. I would say it is very stable. but it is far from finished and definitely far from perfect. If I shouted that it was and everyone should join the monkey2 coach, there would be some very unhappy people.
@Richard – stop banging on about your own personal beliefs!
