I broke the emscripten
I am not a windows wizzard.
I am trying to fix it again by following the instructions from the monkey2 editor (ted) help screen.
I think I still have the old Emscripten compiler. I will install the new one.
I am looking at the developer tools from chrome and there is a error saying that Temp.wasm can not be loaded.
Monkey1Temp.html:117 GET https://cromdesi.home.xs4all.nl/wasm/2dwater/Temp.wasm 404 (Not Found)Do I have to use mserver on the website? When I compile through the editor and run it it works. When I upload it to the website through ftp it does not update it.
I just tested it on my ipad 2017 and it works there also. There was an update not so long ago so maybe support for it was added then?
The size is the only slightly negative thing compared to monkeyx’s html5. I am looking forward to using wasm now for my website. Not many reasons left for me to continue to use monkeyx. Only it’s flash applets are useful to me now. Having those on google sites an being able to put them in blogger posts is a really neat feature.
One thing I noticed in the wasm progs is that if I use the F1 key in chrome then it opens a help page. Not to sure if that can be worked around.
I think I have not seen any tutorials on the differences of monkeyx and monkey2.
I have not ported much yet. But I only had to do minor adjustments with small files. The switch to monkey2 from monkeyx is not that difficult in my opinion. If you want to use the more advanced monkey2 features then you would probably need to rewire more if you convert ‘larger’ monkeyx projects.
I have been googling a bit (while watching e3 shows:) ) on wasm and noticed it has already been put into the test version of webkit(for mac and ios web) So I hope it will work on the ipad in a few months.
What I find strange is that the java applets and the flash applets failed and this somehow succeeds. I wonder if wasm will get those security issues as well and will be in hard waters.
I am kind of happy right now that wasm is now possible. I always had the thought that there had to be no reason for the browsers not to be able to run software at full speed. Was just a matter of time.
Nice screenshot. Is that procedurally generated sand? Kind of reminds me of the old worms game map generator.
Nice!
I looked through the code and noticed it does not do terrain cost. It does handle diagonal and non diagonal.
I discovered that the simple flood or seed fill is also a good and simpler way to make pathfinding. I think I remember a gdc video where this was also tipped.
Sure no problem. Use what you need.
I will look for working fps mouse controls or try to convert some from b3d. Then I will try to create random fps levels. Maybe even try to add shooting and some baddies.
My last 3d project was 11 months ago already:) http://www.blitzbasic.com/codearcs/codearcs.php?code=3277

The gui things I was working on and got distracted. I wanted to continue on it later. I have not been doing a lot with monkey 2 for a while now. I hope to find tutorials or anything for the monkey 2 gui features in the future and learn then. Or when I have some motivation to spend more time to learn it. Until that I just make my own things like I always did. At the moment I use Monkey 1 if I want to make something new.
I am not an expert/good programmer. Mostly just for fun and future investement. I use a lower case style naming for everything and the compiler has not been telling me to do it differently. I have not had problems so far. This might change in the future though.
I know my programming is not the best
I noticed from a book recently that I converted code from it into something that was 5 or 6 times as big to do the same thing. I hope to get better at it. But this might take a decade or two
I posted the examples here becourse I always have a difficult time starting in a new language. I know I can not be the only one.
Feedback is apreciated though! Makes me spend more time thinking things over.
Downloaded and installing it right now. And I donated a couple of dollars to blitz research for this release.
Nice! Will not be using or buying the add thingy(yet) but I will be using the new monkey release. I already rebuild the modules for emscripten.
I made a small donation using paypal.
Now to get back into that coding mindset!
Any chance of a short description on how they work? (Couple of lines maybe?)
My current method for making heightmaps is like this :
Draw randomly sized rectangles on top of each other. When drawn ontop add the value together. At a certain high value stop the procedure and you are done.
The result looks pretty much like a heightmap. Is pretty easy to code too.
