Well well.. when it comes to “clever decisions” I’m a bit worried because it somehow started with the not so clever decision to use Monkey as a name and there were several other decisions following up.
And to take that Unity example it was probably helpful for the Unity guys to stick to their product and make it better instead of always restarting from scratch and splitting up the community every time. But that’s just my thinking and I can be wrong of course.
Agreed partially taumel. But we have to be honest. When talking about industry standards Monkey 2 will play no role at all. It will never compete with Unity/Unreal for instance. It is a niche, a nice one I have to admit.
I can provide you with tons of meshes I use in my games.
Would love to help and test.
About gles2.0 I’m fine with that. Taumel, don’t forget we still speak about multi platform, so this should run on Android and iOS as well. Actually when you really want a top notch 3d AAA engine, I think Monkey 2 with its coming 3d module isn’t the right thing for you. I’m still amazed about things which were possible with DX7 though.
You can do fantastic stuff with gles2 already.
Mark, I’d love to see kind of a roadmap for that 3d engine, including rough ETAs as well. Based on your experience, how long do you think could it take till you have a rough going module ready? 1 year?
Plus as soon as Monkey 2 is more mature it’s not a big deal to switch from Monkey X. Just use mojo2 with Monkey X instead of the older mojo which makes a later change to Monkey 2 even more easy.
Short answer: When you want to go mobile, use Monkey 1 for now. For desktop Monkey 2 is fine.

I guess he will continue to do so till he will at some point has reached his EOL.
He’s a compiler “god”, creating languages is what he’s really great in and I have no doubts there will be another one after Monkey 2. And why not? What bothers me is the split up of the community every time. No doubts he might be alone then with LANGUAGE XYZ in 20 years, maybe he has even created the perfect thing then but no one will notice…
January 19, 2017 at 2:35 pm in reply to: Maybe we should give up on the BlitzMax crowd and close the forum. #6641In your opinion, yes. In mine not. So what when all those guys register here then? Close this forum as well? Forums are discussions boards and sometimes can create discussions about topics you or I don’t like.
Actually I’d prefer Mark would close THIS forum and move everything over there, it’s a pity to see one split after another…
You’re right supertino!
That would be awesome as well and it might be even more motivating for Mark.
I also think Mark should add more “reward levels”. That doesn’t necessarily mean there should be really more rewards actually…
impixi that’s very generous of you. Let me assure you that I stand on your side in case it drops below $1k.
After finishing Silent Depth (my 3d submarine game) using Unity I’d love to create something similar using Monkey 2. Initially I used Monkey 1 plus minib3d but it had some drawbacks which I simply could not resolve so I moved to Unity. But I still prefer Monkey over everything else!
Yes, that discount code seems to have a timer.
Just tried it. Drop me a message and I will send you that version.
Nice indeed!
Thanks nerobot, will try that! You’re very kind and sorry when I was a bit too harsh.
Bought!
Edit: BTW: is it compatible with Pyro 2?
Ok I had it once. Was able to compile and start Ted from within Ted but now it doesn’t start anymore. When pressing Build&Run it compiles and the output just says:
***** Building app ‘D:/Programme/Monkey2-v1.1.02/src/ted2go/ted2.monkey2’ *****
Parsing…
Semanting…
Translating…
Compiling…
Linking D:/Programme/Monkey2-v1.1.02/src/ted2go/ted2.products/Windows/Ted2.exe…
Application built:D:/Programme/Monkey2-v1.1.02/src/ted2go/ted2.products/Windows/Ted2.exeDone.
It simply doesn’t start anymore. Haven’t changed anything yet, cleared build folders, no effect.
I’m giving up now. Looks like I have to use Notepad++ till ziggy comes up with Jungle for Monkey 2.
That’s nothing against your efforts, dear nerobot, I really appreciate what you’ve done, but I need a IDE I can work with.
Ted 1 was awful, Ted 2 doesn’t work at all for me, probably the problem is my computer, dunno why and how. I’ve disabled everything including virus scanners but no change.
Edit: Completely forgot about Mollusk. So if anyone has trouble with Ted, there’s another IDE: http://grudlux.com/mollusk/
